Conferences at The Margaret Thatcher Centre

Expanding Margaret Thatcher’s Legacy Through Conferences

The continued relevance of Lady Thatcher’s philosophy and political beliefs will be explored via our conference programme, headlined by The Freedom Festival, that will analyse her deep belief in nine core principles that she espoused: democracy, capitalism, deregulation, freedom, community, enterprise, nationhood, security and choice. It is envisaged that three of these nine principles will form the focus of a conference each year on a rolling basis so that each of these nine principles is covered over a three-year period.

Past Conferences

The Second Annual Freedom Festival

Following the great success of The Inaugural Margaret Thatcher Centre Freedom Festival in 2023, we were very excited to hold the two-day event again in March 2024.

The Festival runs in partnership with the University of Buckingham and its network with other organisations that share the Centre’s values. The two-day conference presents a further opportunity to combine educational activities with practical insights during a full-day conference followed by a gala dinner.

The Freedom Festival welcomes a host of modern-day influencers offering fresh perspectives to students and others eager to understand more about the life, values, and achievements of Margaret Thatcher. An emphasis on entrepreneurialism encourages the audience to learn from the established entrepreneurs leading the talks.

Academic Symposiums

The Centre’s symposiums will allow for a deeper level of academic debate to take place in a reasoned, objective way that will see participants drill down into the minutiae of decisions taken by Lady Thatcher, aided by access to papers that will form part of the Centre’s permanent archives (which include papers and other artifacts provided by former colleagues and friends of Lady Thatcher). In hosting a number of academic symposiums, the Centre also wishes to introduce fresh perspectives to what is, currently, a desperately dispiriting situation in many universities across the United Kingdom.

Hosted at the University of Buckingham and broadcast on the internet, these symposiums will provide a counter-weight to the devastating effects of the current agenda across higher-educational institutes in the UK. With your help, we can provide an alternative to the current groupthink prevalent at so many universities, promote traditional legal freedoms and educate the next generations on the fundamental principles of the rule of law.
